How can you escape analysis paralysis?

The Challenge

Think about a decision you had a hard time making recently (or possibly a decision you are still wrestling with). Identify three points in your decision-making process where you struggled. For each of those points, think of one thing you could have shifted to get past the struggle more quickly.

Why do this?

The ability to make well-informed, effective, and timely decisions is an important skill.

Data is sometimes limited and solutions may be less than ideal, but decisions still need to be made in a timely manner. It can be easy to overthink decisions and collect more data than necessary. You can be overwhelmed when you feel there are too many options or if you feel you need to make a perfect decision. A better strategy is to eliminate the worst solutions and then try out a solution that appears reasonable.

What’s next?

Repeat this process with the next decision that feels tough, focusing on the part of the process that tends to be most difficult for you. Continuing to practice making "good enough" decisions will improve your ability to make effective decisions.
